These terrariums are tiny worlds sealed up in Jars. They are really easy to build and maintain. You rarely, if ever, have to water them, and they are a great environment for all kinds of unusual plants and mosses.
Media: For two of the terrariums, we used Fluval Stratum. First it was soaked in some clean rainwater for 20 minutes. Next, it was soaked in a rainwater dosed with our half strength solution for another 20 minutes. This gave it everything it needed to grow healthy plants. The other terrarium is peagravel flooded with rainwater dosed to half strength.
Nutrient Mix: Half Strength
pH: Fluval Stratum has a slightly acid pH which is good for growing plants. No action was taken. The peagravel is inert and no adjustment was made to the rainwater.
Plants: Pennywort, Monte Carlo, common mosses, Resurrection Fern (grows on tree bark. Never pull bark off a living tree. It can kill it.) A lot of aquarium plants will do well in these terrariums. Most can easily grow above water too.
Light: Bright indirect light.
